Misery Monday XI | The Rusted God

Hello my fellow travelers on the path,

Today is the end of Rust!! Then we'll head on our final path through the House of Blood. This deck is about to be complete. So soon. Enoch is vibrating with excitement, and thanked folks for birthday wishes. Today though, we break our chains and remove our shackles as we face the Rusted God and its Withered Speaker.



  • 5 The Excess
    In our suit of Rust, we have The Indebted. In excess, those in Rust give themselves deeply to all the chains that hold them. They pray still harder and show their devotion by adopting additional manacles. These are people who labor harder in the system to prove their worth to the machine that abuses them. On the other side, as we heal and rebuild, we may shackle ourselves to all the people and places we owe fixes/retries to. We may beg people's grace and forgiveness, but do not. Instead, give yourself grace as you move forward on your road of healing.
  • 6 The Ecstasy
    In our suit of Rust, we have The Gathering. The ecstasy of rebuilding is the gathering of friends and supporters. The ecstasy of rebuilding is having your base to live again. You will heal with others, let them gather about you, listen and talk, but also thrive in the living energy of others again. Even if they're challenging. Even if they're difficult.
  • 7 The Finale
    In our suit of Rust, we have The Unkept. To leave this space is to realize the chains that went into the dark on everyone were a lie. They go nowhere. You can undo the collar and free yourself. In time we will feel that all our steps are foolish, unkept by a safe path, but it will be good. You can remember the collar's weight, but do not stop. Keep going. There is nothing here that is stuck, no dark side, to be Unkept is to be free of the house entirely. Beyond rust.
  • Denizen
    In our suit of Rust, we have The Withered Speaker. There is truth in this creature's faith and words, it truly does shield him from his own fire. But there is also cruelty, chains, control. The chains from his flock come to him, they are his eyes. He speaks guidelines and rules into the world, and his flock follows. This is no indictment of religion or faith, but it is of the power dynamics that exist in spaces like that. No one should be a ruler over others lives, and we should not limit our paths by their words.
  • Ruler
    In our suit of Rust, we have The Rusted God. It is not alive. It is Tradition on a pole. Where all the chains go, to the hands of an unliving ideal. This rotten, never-living thing does not own you. There isn't even a person to buck off, merely take your chain from its open hands and move on to life. You were mistaken in thinking Tradition, in this case, was alive.

Misery Monday X | The Suit of Rust begins

Welcome my friends in Misery to the look at the Suit of Rust!
Yes, we are on the titular suits now. We're very close to the end. Ironically, Blood and Rust are... the other way around for actual order. But Rust and Blood doesn't sound as good to me. Sue me for my lack of cohesion!

  • The House 
    • The House of Rust is The Temple Factory, the ornate, but old and decrepit, rusted out shell of the manufacturing of our tradition. Spilling into the suit of Rust is returning to the world you left in your absence of sorrow, and seeing it is a worn out space. This is reconstruction and working through what you have experienced. You must see the rusted world around you and find your own path here.
  • 0 The Folly 
    • In the House of Rust, our 0 is The Faithful. It can be easy to return to your life and get back on your knees in a row, falling back into line with how life was before. To try to just "return to normal". But reconstruction here must mean to grow past what set you up for the fall the first time. You cannot simple become one of the Faithful at the altar of rusted tradition. You must find your new path forward. We also see here an important theme in this suit, the chained collars on the faithful. Note that the chains always lead off into the dark, to nowhere.
  • 1 The Portal 
    • In the House of Rust, our 1 is The Failed Gate. The path ahead has been barred for as long as we've known. But now we can see it is not so. The old gate, perhaps once bolder and stronger, has fallen to pieces. Where you were once barred from going, you simply may push through. It may take a little effort, but do not be afraid to go out on the path yourself. That is where you are now in life.
  • 2 The Nemesis 
    • In the House of Rust, our 2 is The Wretch. This being has locked you in a cell of their expectations. They dangle your freedom at their whim, saying you must fall in line with how things have always worked, because that's how they had to live, and they won't let you live in a better truth than they have. Suffer as they did! But look closely and you'll see the bars of your cage, and the keys, are rusted away. They don't have the keys to your freedom, and never did. Just push the door open.
  • 3 The Wound 
    • In the House of Rust, our 3 is The Rusted Bones. Seeing what has happened to our home, our structure, foundations in our absence is hard to see. This is the ruin of where you once resided. It may have looked like this for some time to everyone else, but you couldn't see it until now. Looking on it will hurt, but see it for what it is. Fixable. 
  • 4 The Harmonic 
    • In the House of Rust, our 4 is The Honest Hands. The foundation of rebuilding is remaking what you have lost. It won't be the exact same, but be open to accept help in this process. Rebuild your home where it once stood-- clean up, pick up, rebuild. It's worth it, you will find your foundations to push further for the rest of your life from here.

Next week is the rest of rust... and then March 3rd and 10th is the rest of the deck in the suit of Blood...

Misery Monday IX | The Suit of Nails Immaculate

My dear Miserrians,

First off, my infinite brain kept me up till 6am last night to work through the intricacies of two collectible card games I have had kicking around for 2 years now. It apparently doesn't matter I have 9 other projects in action at the moment, and soon to be a 10th. Brain will always find more to do. If you want to see more about those, check out the patreon post for Wednesday this week!

At the moment, Enoch and I have kicked it into gear and are about to be done with the Suit of Rust. We are getting ahead of ourselves so we can get that early printing of the deck done sooner than later. Let me know your favorite tarot youtubers and instagrammers etc, so I can reach out to see who might like to have their hands on an early print of this deck in March. If any of you are those exact kind of tubers or content creators, let me know! We will be doing deck packaging and tarot cloth and all the extra goodies when we get the deck done in the background, which means Enoch is almost done with all their work.

I will also be doing a final deck pass through to make sure each card is done and correct shortly, which is a fun finalization experience.

But more importantly, ENOCH's BIRTHDAY is this week! So wish Enoch a happy birthday. I might even let Enoch live without sicking a horrid creature on them when all is said and done. Maybe.



  • 5 The Excess
    In our suit of Nails, we have The Overhope. In excess, Nails begins to gather all their hope into impossible tasks. It's an easy trap, when we finally have hope, to begin making infinite plans and using our nails on concrete blocks that can't receive them. Make reasonable plans! Do not hope to suddenly become everything you waited for. It is still a slow build, friends. 
  • 6 The Ecstasy
    In our suit of Nails, we have The Making. The ecstasy of hope, an upward turn, is having the tools to keep ourselves dry in the rain. Knowing that we can make something small, a simple shelter for our hearts. It seems like not much to others, but for us who have suffered, it is such a balm and hope that anything can still happen again. We are freed to heal and grow. Good for us, truly.
  • 7 The Finale
    In our suit of Nails, we have The Planning. To come out the other side of this suit, once again, can have two meanings. One is to become one with the House, the overplanner who maps every part of our brains. But that is more the Denizen here than who we are. The other meaning is to gain a lesson from our time in the house, and here it is to make a roadmap of our goals. Reasonably and over time, piece by piece, to rebuild ourselves and our lives. We can dream again.
  • Denizen
    In our suit of Nails, we have The Precise Fool. This person has overplanned everything. They believe they can map out every piece of what can happen ahead. With their nail, they have carved in stone what will happen for the rest of their lives, with star charts and runes and happiness meters. But of course, we cannot plan our lives in stone. Anything can happen. Have goals and dreams, work towards them, but know that they may change, or you may decide you don't want them. Life is meant to be lived, not charted. So make bullet points, then go live towards them.
  • Ruler
    In our suit of Nails, we have The Guiltless Queen. At her best, she has gained the understanding that she is not guilty. That is not a bad thing, it can be something we often struggle to accept when bad things happen. That it wasn't our fault. But at her worst, she is Guilty of things she has brushed aside with her new slate approach. She worked through the hard feelings of the badness of the situation, and now she emerges into the light unblemished. But in the dark, we still see the thick stake in the back of her head, scrambling her thoughts. Accept her nail, but do not stay with her and buy into her guiltless narrative. No one is perfectly faultless in life. We must find our wounds to know what even needs healed. Hope is not all there is, there is still the moving forward to enact it. She will stay here instead, always in the infinite dream of what hope offers, never in the actuality of affecting it.

Now in the stark reality of life, in the greyness of all things, we have learned that there is an upward swing. That in the grey concreteness of the world, we have hope. Our next path is to step into the Rusted world we find ourselves in, the wreckage of what went to decay when we left it to fall into the pits of despair. Only there can we gain understanding of what our real world looks like now that it has faded down to nubs. What are the bare bones of tradition? What will it take to rebuild from the ashes, the nails now in hand?

And tragically, I had to take down the Goblin's Journey project and re-launch. It was clear it was going to fail with its 15k goal, the ita bag just made it impossible to fund. So the relaunch has gone on without the ita bag. This time we're looking just at pins and a plush. And that makes it more reasonable. :)

Misery Monday VIII | The Approaching of the Nails

Welcome back to the path of Misery.

(I actually put this together Thursday, which is really great because Friday night I felt weird, and then I spent Saturday and Sunday in bed all day sick. Frankly, I'm not sure I'm even 70% now. So thank you, last Thursday self, for randomly doing this one like 5 days early!)

We have toured the main exhibit, we have experienced the shocking horror of the House of Blades, the winding woods of the House of Wire, the tempting hunger of the House of Flesh, and slid through the muck and death of the House of Rot. In each case, we dove deep through unreality, terror, fear. Places wholly nightmarish.

Now, today, we begin the turn.



Today, we emerge into something clearer, simpler. No longer the dreamlike hues of Rot, nor the overwhelming explosions of blood or flesh. We see things plainly, as they are. The Suit of Nails is our upward turn in the process of grieving, when we begin to see the world again, when we begin to see things as real, possible.


  • The House 
    • The House of Nails is The Outpost, our plain concrete shelter waiting for us beyond the fields of Rot. This lonely building is among our suffering, but now in a stark reality. This can seem scary, worrying. But it's not. Walk into this room to find a simple work bench, one light, and shelter. You are now ready to begin working towards something greater than you have once more. 
  • 0 The Folly 
    • In the House of Nails, our 0 is The Relapse. It can be easy to look at the workbench, the nails, and dive back into the pain. The hardest part of this phase of misery is accepting that there are good things possible now. It is not hard at this point to slip back into believing you deserve pain. Suffering. But do not fear. You can take the nails out of your hand and push on. This does not mean you have failed.
  • 1 The Portal 
    • In the House of Nails, our 1 is The Patient Nail. The path ahead looks scary. But the nail suspended overhead is not our foe. It will not strike down on us, it is just there as a reminder of what was. There is hope ahead, and when you have it, you see the hanging danger for what it is, a mere memory. Stationary now, it cannot hurt you any longer. Pass under it without fear.
  • 2 The Nemesis 
    • In the House of Nails, our 2 is The Betrayer. This creature will seek to deny you your hope. Some people see you from the outside and may not feel you've suffered enough for any number of reasons. People who think they know you better than you do. Do not pay them heed. They can only hurt those who trust them.
  • 3 The Wound 
    • In the House of Nails, our 3 is The Memories. Hope can hurt us by making us face what we have to do next. Who we have to heal wounds with, who we need to apologize to for disappearing, for not helping. We must take this into our own hands, and make a plan for who is ahead, what we owe, who we should thank, and build our plan to rejoin them in life. Turn this pain into goodness with action. 
  • 4 The Harmonic 
    • In the House of Nails, our 4 is The Tools. The foundation of Hope comes in taking the nails in hand and going forward. With the right tools, we can begin to make again. Make plans, make a life, make goals. Do not fear, the House of Nails is here for you. These nails are not weapons, but helpful elements to make the world a better place once more. 


I will see you next Monday with The Overhope, The Making, The Planning, The Precise Fool, and oh, what is this? Ahh, The Guiltless Queen. Yes, our ruler of Nails. And yes, those are the silly sketches I sent to Enoch for this suit. I'll be sharing the sketches for Rust and Blood when we get to them as well!

By our schedule, February will see both Nails and Rust completed. We're ever closer to the finish line my friends. Take heed, the upward turn in the deck marks the moment we are healing. It is not all doom and gloom.

Misery Monday VII | The Fulfilled Flesh

Warning, there is a giant penis in the 5, so if you want to avoid that on your phone in public or something, you've been warned! So let me buffer a little bit with a reminder that you have until Feb 2nd to get a refund on this project, no questions asked. After that, there will be no refunds offered.  Okay, buffer over. Let's take our final look at the House of Flesh!



  • 5 The Excess
    In our suit of Flesh, we have The Throbbing. In excess, Flesh explores the extreme of bargaining. Where we give everything for what we want, need, hunger for, but leave ourselves emaciated, bloodless, dying. This is literally represented in a penis too large to ever be fully erect, the body clinging to it, wanting it, but dying because of it. They have such hope and joy in this bargain, but cannot understand they die from it. Be wary of what you give up in exchange for what you want. 
  • 6 The Ecstasy
    In our suit of Flesh, we have The Bruised. Pure ecstasy in pain. At a certain point, rage, anger, abuse become normal to us. By us, at us, to us. It becomes a point where we feel high as if surviving the pain is healing it. But it's not. We can't thrive in our anger at the world or other people. We can't just lash out to feel something! To heal, we must stop the pain. Stop dealing it, stop accepting it, stop creating it.
  • 7 The Finale
    In our suit of Flesh, we have The Turned Away. To become a denizen of this house is to ignore offers of help. To see the way out and finally choose to stay. To hurt. To be hurt. To always be trading to live. We can become addicted to this space and relationship. To escape it though, we must be able to turn to face what we have made, what we have experienced, or how we are being hurt, and finally say no more. There are no easy ways out through other people's help. We must face what is happening and take a stand to leave ourselves, on our own terms.
  • Denizen
    In our suit of Flesh, we have The Cannibal. This is a beast more than a person. Ashamed to be caught, but that won't stop it from eating the body in its lap. This creature will eat its own fingers as it eats its subject and never notice. Lost in pure consumption, the feeling of intensity and rawness. It has traded itself wholly for the role of being the one who eats, rather than being eaten. But that has left it alone. Trading its humanity to never be the one who is hurt. 
  • Ruler
    In our suit of Flesh, we have The Body King. Be wary of collecting your defenses around you like a mass. In your bargaining and fury, you have begun to use other people to fulfill what you felt you were missing. This is a person who will use you for their own ends, not noticing when you begin to go rotting, and when they do? They won't help you. They are beautiful now from all your help, they will undo the stitching and leave you rotting in the corner. You are ascension to them, not a person to be helped, seen, supported. There can only be one King.

Well, well, well. With the House of Flesh complete, we now head into the final 3 suits. Nails, Rust, Blood. Nails is about to be a grey, concrete world. Are we ready for desolate beauty? I sure hope so! Nails is our upward turn, promises of more available before us. It is the moment for us to gather our tools in hand and begin planning for possibility.
